Light Kit for #92176

Beautifully designed lighting kit! This is a well thought out kit and was relatively easy to install (relative to creating a do-it-yourself setup as I was originally thinking of doing). I especially like the cutoff switch disabling the lights on the second and third stages if they are attached to first stage.

Two caveats:

First, save yourself a lot of time by downloading the correct instructions (92176 - NASA Apollo Saturn V) rather than the “21309 - NASA Apollo Saturn V (discontinued)” instructions as I did. I incorrectly inferred that “discontinued” was Light My Bricks’s version of Lego’s “retired” not realizing they were referring to a discontinued Light My Bricks product. It wasn’t until I got to the second stage that I realized something had horribly gone wrong!

Second, on page 22, bottom right panel, with the instruction, “Push the bar in until it will not fall out on its own” I did not find that the engine cowling stayed securely attached. In the fully assembled model they were easily knocked off or fell easily off by themselves. A little bit of plumbers tape (wrapped 2 or three times around the end of the rod before insertion) solved this issue!

The quality of this Light My Bricks kit is such that I have ordered the lighting kits for the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station and the Lunar Lander.

Also, my order was promptly processed and delivery was very good.

I whole heartedly recommend their products.

Really enjoyed putting this kit together, and it looks great. I might consider adding additional USB connectors or longer cable connectors between stages, when I get around to displaying this properly - as each stage is currently joined together, and makes it easy to accidentally knock other pieces over while trying to place each one.. but that's not the fault of the LMB kit! Love the flickering engines, and that it's not overdone with additional lights where they shouldn't be.

This has been my first experience adding a light kit to a Lego build and it’s been a good one. First of all, I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation of the light kit when it arrived. Nicely designed and good quality packaging. While installing the kit I noticed that all the parts were also of a very decent quality. The pieces and wires are very small, thin and feel a bit delicate, but nothing got damaged, even when handled a bit rough. The connections fit only one way and everything fits fine and feels securely attached. The instructions for this kit were clear enough. Sometimes you have to look twice or zoom in to see the pictures more clearly, but it was fine. I found that installing this was quite easy, especially because there is quite some repetition in fitting the LEDs in the engines. Do one engine and you fly through the rest of them. I had real fun lighting up the Saturn V, and it looks really cool when finished. I did add a LMB dimmer board to the mix, because I found the LEDs to be a bit too bright for my taste, especially because of the flickereffect which could be distracting at times in my dimly lit office/hobbyroom while watching TV. Now with the dimmer doing it’s dimming it’s more of subtle candle flicker. Got it powered up with the LMB power supply on a Philips Hue Smart Plug. Recommended! :-)
